Description

It was about 85 degrees outside, the sun pounding on my back, as I feel the sweat dripping off my forehead. I'm volunteering at Stone Fire Art Studio. When I walk into the back storage room, I hear Maxine tell me "Clean this area up, throw away what you think should be trashed!" I start to lift the sheets of rough lumber, scared that I would get a splinter while throwing it away. Halfway to the dumpster, the smell of rotten trash was filling the air. I kept walking towards the dumpster with my eyes watering. Once I got there I set the sheets of lumber down then suddenly my finger was aching. I could feel the pulse pounding in my finger. I dropped the wood on top of my finger and while pulling it out I got a splinter. I went into the bathroom to wash my hands and the cold water on my hands felt so cold and nice. I then went to my bag and got a bandaid  to put over my splinter to help keep it clean and also took a sip of my cool and refreshing Arizona Arnold Palmer Tea!

Comparison

While volunteering at Stone Fire Art Studio, Maxine Trainer, reminded me of an art teacher I had in Elementary school at Challenger 7. Mrs. Van was my art teacher the whole time I was at Challenger 7. So ever since I was in second grade all the way until 6th grade I had the same art teacher. Mrs. Van always made art fun, no matter what we were doing. Maybe that's the reason Maxine reminded me of my old Elementary art teacher. Maybe it was they we're both a little crazy and didn't always make the most sense when explaining things. But it could have also been how talented both of them are. Mrs. Van was very talented with everything she did. Maxine is so talented at her paintings. I love Maxine's signature paintings on the textured canvas she makes.  I'm glad that volunteering at Stone Fire Art Studio, helped to remind me of my Elementary school teachers, Mrs. Van.

Cause and Effect

While volunteering at Stone Fire Art Studio, in Brevard County I was asked to help clean the back storage room. Maxine could have asked me to clean to the storage room our for many different reasons. One of the reasons could have been so it wasn't so cluttered, another could have been so she could use the extra space, another reason why she might have wanted it clean was so she could organize it to help her find everything easier. Once I was done moving many different things to the dumpster behind the building, I organized the paint cans so they were all in one section. Once I was done helping Maxine Trainer organize the back storage room she was very pleased with what we had accomplished. Maxine was happy that it was not so cluttered and she also talked about how now she could use more space for her Cell Phone Art Exhibit. She was also very excited that her paint cans were now organized.

Advocacy

Everyone wants their children to have many good traits. Resourcefulness is a good trait to have because it is always a good trait when one is able to act effectively or even imaginatively. With your child having a trait such as resourcefulness, he/she would always be able to always make the best out of what they have. A good way to help your child learn resourcefulness would be to have your child volunteer at an art studio such as, Stone Fire Art Studio. While volunteering at an community art studio, one's child will learn about resourcefulness. At StoneFire, the director, Maxine Turner uses many different techniques to teach your children qualities of resourcefulness. Maxine Turner herself, is a very resourceful person. She can find a different use for something no matter what. In front of Stone Fire Art Studio they have a lounge area outside, which Maxine used old tires to make tables for the chairs that students had painted to sit around.

Narrative

While volunteering at Stone Fire Art Studios for the past couple of weeks, all of the volunteers got the chance to paint a brick on the side the building. The bricks on the side of the building are a good chance for the volunteers to show their efforts while volunteering at the local community art studio, Stone Fire Art Studio. Every brick has a good representation of each volunteer and shows a good way to express themselves. Some volunteers just went for the plain look and painted their brick a solid color while others, painted their with a special design. A group of kids painted their bricks with characters from the Nickelodeon Show, SpongeBob SquarePants. Some students painted their brick with their name while others went for a little design. Volunteering at Stone Fire Art Studios was a very fun experience and I would definitely go back to volunteer some more or even just hang out and grab some coffee.
